Polling to elect members of Senate to be held on Tuesday

Polling to elect thirty members of the Senate will be held on Tuesday. Election Commission of Pakistan has already notified eighteen candidates as unopposed returned on vacant seats of Balochistan and Punjab. Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has directed to launch a grand operation against power theft, smuggling and hoarding. Punjab Chief Minister, while chairing a meeting in Lahore today, set a deadline of one month to eliminate power theft. It was decided that meter of every domestic and commercial meter will be checked. She directed to take indiscriminate action against anyone involved in these illegal activities. ROs issue final list of candidates contesting Senate Polls

Returning officers have issued the final list of the candidates contesting elections on 48 vacant seats of the Senate. According to a press release of the Election Commission, a total of 147 candidates submitted their nomination papers for these vacant seats. Out of these, eighteen candidates have been elected unopposed. These eighteen include seven each from Punjab and Balochistan on general quota, two on female and two from Ulema or technocrat quota. Punjab govt provided free ration to point 6.4mln deserving families: Azma Bukhari

Information Minister Punjab Azma Bukhari says the Punjab government has provided free ration to 6.4 million deserving families in Ramadan. Talking to media in Lahore today regarding the government's performance in the last one month, she said the Punjab government has decided to conduct a survey of the poor in the province within three months. She announced that the government will construct 3000 houses in each district, for shelter-less and low-income people.
