Board Reveals Supplementary Intermediate Exam Form Submission Date in Karachi

The Board of Intermediate Education (BIE) Karachi has revealed the date for submitting supplementary exam forms, applicable to all academic groups.

The new exam schedule has been released for students who failed in at least one or up to four papers in the annual examination. The revised schedule has been notified by the Deputy Controller of the BIE Karachi Zahid Rashid.

The notification stated that starting December 15, students who intend to attempt the supplementary exam can collect and submit the forms. BIE Karachi announced that the forms can be collected from the designated centers.

Candidates must pay a late fee of Rs. 1000 when submitting the supplementary exam form. Furthermore, the fee for Part-I exams has been set at Rs. 4,100, while those opting for both Part-I and Part-II must pay a total of Rs. 5100.

The examination forms would be verified by the respective colleges before submitting it to the board.

New Dates Announced for Display of Merit Lists by Medical Colleges

On Tuesday, the University of Health Sciences (UHS) announced a revised schedule for the release of merit and selection lists for public and private medical and dental colleges in Punjab for the session 2023-24.

As per the updated schedule provided by a UHS spokesperson, the provisional merit list for government medical and dental colleges is now set to be displayed on December 8, followed by the publication of the final merit list on December 12.

The first college-wise selection list for MBBS will be released on December 15, with the deadline for fee submission scheduled for December 20.

For government medical colleges, the second selection list will be made available on December 22, and the third on December 29.

The schedule for selection lists of BDS for public dental colleges will remain unchanged from the previous notification.

Furthermore, the spokesperson specified that the provisional merit list for private medical and dental colleges is expected to be issued on December 18.

These adjustments in the schedule of merit and selection lists were necessitated by the re-conduct of the Medical and Dental College Admission Test (MDCAT) in Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).

Pakistan’s school for orphans ‘KORT’ wins prestigious Zayed Sustainability Prize

Pakistan's school for orphans 'KORT' has won the prestigious Zayed Sustainability Prize at COP28, Dubai.

The school is for children who became orphan during the 2005 earthquake.

Sumaiya Bibi a student of the school received the award on behalf of the school.

Zayed Sustainability Prize honours the legacy of UAE's founding father Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan al Nahyan by rewarding small and medium enterprises, non-profit organisations and educational institutions that are addressing climate related challenges.

Peshawar University Relaunches Old Department With No Admission Fee

The Seerat-un-Nabi (SAW) Studies Department at the University of Peshawar has been re-established with free admissions after a seven-year hiatus.

The department had been closed in 2016 due to low enrollment numbers.

The inauguration of the department was presided over by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Haji Ghulam Ali.

He was joined by prominent religious scholars, including Mufti Ghulamur Rahman, Mufti Shahbuddin Popalzai, and Maulana Mohammad Idrees, as well as the Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Mohammad Idrees, and former provincial ministers such as Maulana Amanullah Haqqani and Zahir Shah, among others.

In response to the Vice-Chancellor’s request, the governor not only announced free admissions but also reduced fees by 30 percent for Arabic and Islamic Studies programs.

Dr. Idrees pledged that the department would receive the necessary faculty and resources without delay.

Punjab University Announces Holiday on 9 November

Punjab University has officially announced a holiday on the occasion of Iqbal Day.

According to the official notification, Punjab University will remain closed on 9 November, Thursday.

There has been a lot of confusion among the masses regarding the public holiday on 9 November. It is primarily due to the fact that the Iqbal Day holiday remained suspended from 2015 to 2021.

On 8 November 2022, then PM Shehbaz Sharif declared Iqbal Day as a holiday. Later in December, the Interior Ministry also notified Iqbal Day 2023 as a public holiday.

However, previous experiences are causing confusion among the public.

In a separate but recent development, Punjab University became the best university in Pakistan in Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2024 by Subject.

Out of 11 subjects, Pakistani universities were ranked in 9 subjects. Out of those, Punjab University was ranked in 7 subjects, making it the most-ranked Pakistani university.
