Pak-UK relations based on shared culture of democracy: NA Speaker

Speaker National Assembly Raja Pervez Ashraf has said Pakistan and the United Kingdom enjoy cordial relations based on a shared culture of democracy and a parliamentary form of government.

He expressed these views during his meeting with Speaker of the House of Commons Lindsay Hoyle on the sidelines of the 26th Conference of Speakers and Presiding Officers of Commonwealth in Canberra, Australia.

The speaker said these ties could be further strengthened by enhancing parliament-to-parliament contacts.

Discussing the innovative initiatives introduced by the parliament of Pakistan, he said it has been at the forefront to guide the nation on the path of progress of development.

He informed that it is the first Green Parliament, the first in the region to establish a parliamentary caucus on child rights, first to open the doors for those who are real pillars of democracy like women, children, minorities, and the transgender community on the occasion of diamond jubilee celebration.

He also said this year parliament of Pakistan also enacted a record number of legislations besides fighting successfully the case of climate justice for Pakistan.

House of Commons Speaker Lindsay Hoyle expressed solidarity with the flood-affected people of Pakistan.

He said enhancing parliamentary contacts is pivotal to learning from parliamentary experiences.

He also said innovative parliaments are essential prerequisites to tackling global challenges.

Geneva Conference will help Pakistan to become climate-resilient: President

President Dr Arif Alvi has expressed hope that the International Conference on Climate Resilient Pakistan in Geneva on Monday would be a step forward in helping Pakistan become a climate-resilient country.

Talking during an overview of Aiwan-e-Sadr for the last year 2022, he said Pakistan has less than one percent contribution in global warming but is adversely affected by climate-induced disaster caused by floods and suffered losses of billions of dollars.

The President lauded the contribution of friendly countries, armed forces, non-governmental organizations and civil administration in the relief and rehabilitation activities for flood affectees.

No hesitation in rendering sacrifices for defence of motherland: PM

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said terrorists and miscreants cannot demoralize the people of Pakistan in their resolve to eliminate terrorism from the country.

He said this while chairing a review meeting in Islamabad on Friday regarding the overall security situation in Pakistan.

The Prime Minister said we will not hesitate in rendering any sacrifice for the defence of the motherland.

He emphasized on enhanced collaboration among all the provincial and federal agencies to curb the recent wave of terrorism.

Shehbaz Sharif directed the Interior Minister, the Interior Secretary, and the National Coordinator for National Counter Terrorism Authority to evolve a strategy, after consulting the provinces, and submit a detailed report.

He advised the provincial apex committees to hold their meetings regularly and eliminate terrorism from the country through enhanced cooperation amongst all the institutions.

Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah and the Interior Secretary presented a detailed briefing on the overall security situation in the country. Inspector Generals and the Chief Secretaries of all the four provinces apprised the meeting about recent incidents of terrorism and measures taken for maintenance of law and order.

The Interior Minister and the Inspector General of Police of Islamabad thanked the Prime Minister for increasing salaries of the capital police and ration of the Frontier Corps at par with other forces, which have boosted morale of the Islamabad Police.

The Prime Minister directed the National Coordinator NACTA to further accelerate its cooperation with provincial Counter Terrorism Departments and other law enforcement agencies.
