Phoenix Software Delivers First Enhancement to JES3 Technology in Six Years with JES3plus® V1R1

Phoenix Software released updates to its product line in September 2021

EL SEGUNDO, Calif., Sept. 28, 2021 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Phoenix Software International, Inc., today announced the general availability of JES3plus V1R1, a derivative work based on IBM’s z/OS® JES3. This release integrates SPOOL I/O performance enhancements made available to JES3plus customers through continuous delivery earlier this year. This is the first release of the JES3 technology to contain enhancements since early 2015 and coincides with z/OS 2.5, the last release of z/OS to include JES3. Organizations looking to remain on this technology who migrate to JES3plus can now reap the benefits of an enhanced product with a roadmap for future development.

JES3plus V1R1

JES3plus V1R1 supports two newer channel programming techniques to improve performance:

  • ACKD – channel programs with a shortened prefix that can process an entire track instead of one record at a time. This enhancement leverages MIDAW support.
  • zHPF – channel programs that leverage the z/Architecture fibre-channel-extensions (FCX) facility to transfer the entire channel program to the device for processing rather than having CCWs transferred as they are encountered.

Phoenix Software’s JES3plus Customer Advisory Council is actively helping to prioritize the product’s enhancement roadmap, so customers should expect to see additional enhancements delivered in 2022 via continuous delivery.

Federal cabinet briefed about EVMs, consultation process with parliamentary parties

The federal cabinet was briefed today (Tuesday) about Electronic Voting Machines and consultation process with parliamentary parties.

 

Briefing media about the decisions taken by the federal cabinet which met in Islamabad today with Prime Minister Imran Khan in the chair, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhry Fawad Hussain said negotiations have begun between the government and opposition on the issue of EVMs, which is a welcoming sign.

 

He said the Prime Minister directed to take the opposition benches on-board on the issue of EVMs. He said the government also intends to convene the joint sitting of the parliament for broader consultations over the issue of EVMs.

 

Chaudhry Fawad Hussain said granting voting rights to the overseas Pakistanis will be a key point of electoral reforms as they are playing a vital role in economic development of the country.

 

Chaudhry Fawad Hussain said the cabinet has approved that only Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee is entitled to announce advent of Ramadan, Eid, or other Islamic calendar days as the entire private moon sighting committees are prohibited under the Constitution.

 

He said this decision has been taken on the recommendations of the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony.

 

The Minister said the meeting also approved constitution of a cabinet committee to review the obstacles in the way of constructing high-rise buildings in cities. He said the committee will report the cabinet within two weeks.

 

Chaudhry Fawad Hussain said the cabinet also approved the national action plan regarding human rights and business as well as E-visa policy under which citizens of 191 countries can be benefitted.

 

He said the cabinet approved sending of a medical team to Indonesia to help curb coronavirus.

Australian Batsman Wants to Resume Cricket Series Between Pakistan and India

Australian batsman of Pakistani descent, Usman Khawaja, has called for the resumption of the Pakistan-India bilateral cricket series.

In a YouTube video, Khawaja said that he misses watching Pakistan taking on India, adding that his parents also used to be extremely excited about the two teams facing off each other.

The 34-year old lamented that there are no more Pak-India matches to look forward to and both teams only play each other during World Cups despite having a fierce rivalry.

 

He expressed hope that bilateral cricket series between both countries will be held soon as the absence of Pak-India rivalry is being felt on cricket’s international stage.

 

I absolutely hate that Pakistan and India don’t play each other anymore. I think it’s the biggest thing that cricket is missing. It will be such an amazing thing if we can get those two countries to play again.

 

Khawaja further disclosed that he has also held discussions with International Cricket Council (ICC) and Cricket Australia (CA) in this regard, pushing both bodies to play their roles in restoring bilateral cricketing relations between the two countries.

Pakistan and India last faced each other in a bilateral series back in 2012-13 when the Green Shirts toured India for three-match ODI series. Since then, the traditional rivals haven’t played bilateral cricket due to strained political relations between the two countries.

In 2014, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced that it had reached an agreement with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to hold 6 bilateral series over the next 8 years. However, BCCI succumbed to the pressure of the Indian government and backed off from the agreement.

 

Despite the differences between the governments, cricket fans across the Radcliffe Line want their respective teams to take on each other once again in a bilateral series as soon as possible.
