Islamabad: Deputy Prime Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar chaired a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Privatization in Islamabad today to review key matters in the power sector. The committee focused on the privatization of three distribution companies (DISCOs) in Islamabad, Gujranwala, and Faisalabad with the goal of enhancing efficiency and financial sustainability.
According to Radio Pakistan, the committee approved the transaction structure, which proposes an outright sale of 51 to 100 percent of share capital in each DISCO, along with management control. This proposal is set to be forwarded to the cabinet for final approval. The Deputy Prime Minister underscored that this initiative aims to strengthen service delivery, ensure a reliable electricity supply, and bring private sector efficiency to the power distribution system.
