Previous Govt’s worst negligence, corruption led to excessive load-shedding: PM

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif says the previous government's worst negligence, slackness and corruption led to excessive load-shedding, despite the existence of sufficient power plants in the country.

He expressed these views during his visit to different parts of Lahore city with out security protocol, to get the first hand knowledge of the problems faced by people.

Criticizing the blithe lack of concern by the previous government towards problems of common man, the Prime Minister said the PTI government had no sympathy with the masses and was disconnected with them.

In a video clip shared by the PM Office, Shehbaz Sharif is seen sitting on the front passenger seat, clearly visible to the other commuters.

Outside, the bikers are seen chanting pro-government slogans whom the Prime Minister responded by waving his hand.

PM to address mammoth public gathering in Besham area of Shangla today

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is scheduled to visit Shangla district today (Saturday) where he will address a public gathering in the Besham area.

The preparations are underway for the public meeting of the Prime Minister which is being held as part of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz's mass contact campaign.

The Prime Minister will announce a historic development package for the socio-economic development of the area.

Talking to PTV, Advisor to Prime Minister Engineer Amir Muqam, who also hails from the area, said the people of Shangla are looking forward to seeing their Prime Minister who has earned a repute of a hardworking politician.

He said as the PML-N's mass contact campaign is going on, another public gathering will be held in Swabi on Wednesday, where the Prime Minister will also address.

The PML-N leader said the previous government has failed to fulfil its commitment during the last four years and instead put the people under a debt burden.

Finance Minister vows to address power crisis

Minster for Finance and Revenue Miftah Ismail says the present government is cognizant of load shedding problem and is determined to provide relief to the masses by resolving the menace of load shedding.

He was chairing a meeting on funding for power and petroleum sector in Islamabad on Friday.

Minister for Energy Khurram Dastgir Khan, Minister of State on Petroleum Division Musadik Masood Malik, Federal Secretaries and senior officers attended the meeting.

The chair was briefed on power plants with fuel positions and funds required for optimal working of these power plants based on coal, RLNG and RFO.

A detailed presentation was also given to the chair on total funds required for fuel including government's support for RLNG and RFO from budgeted subsidies.

The Finance Minister stressed that required steps should be undertaken immediately for efficiently reducing the load shedding.

In this regard, all the three ministers requested Finance, Power and Petroleum Divisions to work out feasible plan for government's support for fuel management in order to ensure the smooth and sustainable power distribution throughout the country.

Pakistan, US agree to enhance engagement on regional, global issues

Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari received a telephone call on Friday from the United States' Secretary of State, Antony Blinken.

During the phone call, Secretary Blinken congratulated Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on assumption of his Office and expressed the desire to continue strengthening mutually beneficial Pakistan-U.S. bilateral relationship.

Exchanging views on various aspects of Pakistan-U.S. relations, the Foreign Minister underscored that Pakistan and the United States have a longstanding broad-based relationship.

He added that constructive and sustained engagement between the two countries on the basis of mutual respect and mutual interest was vital to promote peace, development and security in the region and beyond.

The Foreign Minister emphasized that Pakistan's vision was focused on human development, regional connectivity, and a peaceful neighborhood.

Building on the Pakistan-U.S. cooperation in dealing with the Covid pandemic during the last two years, Secretary Blinken invited Pakistan to the Second Global Covid Summit to be held virtually later this month.

An invitation was also extended by the Secretary of State for Pakistan's participation in the Ministerial meeting on Global Food Security to be held in New York on 18th of this month.

The Foreign Minister and the Secretary of State agreed to remain in contact and enhance engagement on regional and global issues of mutual interest.
