Girl’s education vital for women empowerment: Samina Alvi

First Lady Samina Alvi says provision of education to girls is vital for making women empowerment.

Addressing an event in Islamabad on Monday, she said the government is committed to facilitate women entrepreneurs for their businesses.

She said the President and the Prime Minister of Pakistan are taking keen interest in facilitating women to provide level playing field in the development of the country.

She said Pakistani women are effectively working shoulder to shoulder with men in rendering services to the nation in different fields.

The first lady said strong and healthy women can play an active role in making a strong society.

Yusuf Raza Gilani resigns as leader of opposition in Senate

Leader of the Opposition in the Senate Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani has dispelled the impression that he deliberately remained absent from the House to facilitate the treasury benches for the passage of “The State Bank of Pakistan (Amendment) Bill, 2022.”

Speaking on a point of personal explanation, he said he received the agenda at around 1 a.m. in the night.

Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani, however said he has submitted his resignation to his party and he does not want to remain Leader of Opposition in Senate.

Leader of the House Dr Shahzad Wasim, while responding to the points raised by the Opposition Leader, appreciated the chairman for running business of the House as per rules and regulations. He said it was the responsibility of the opposition to ensure the presence of its members on the floor of the House if it wants to oppose a certain agenda item.

Senator Mushtaq Ahmed Khan said the government has sold the State Bank of Pakistan by passing this bill, which is against Pakistan’s sovereignty.

Senator Dilawar Khan said he supported the bill in the best interest of Pakistan and the nation.

Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Ali Muhammad Khan has urged the youth to play its due role in countering the fifth generation war imposed on Pakistan and to respond to negative propaganda against Pakistan's ideology, Islam, our institutions, and sacred personalities.

Responding to a motion moved by Senator Mushtaq Ahmed Khan regarding performance of cyber crime wing of the FIA, the Minister of State said the government allocated 868 million rupees to check electronic crimes in the country.

He said the growing internet traffic has resulted in the rising cyber crimes. He said FIA is responding to every complaint.

Ali Muhammad Khan also welcomed suggestions to recruit female staff in the FIA's Cyber Crime Wing so that women can approach them with ease for redressal of their complaints.

The Senate on Monday passed three resolutions, including the resolve to preserve and protect the parliamentary form of government as envisaged in the 1973 Constitution as any other form of Government, will have disastrous consequences for the Federation.

The resolution, moved by Raza Rabbani and others, noted that a systematic campaign in a section of the media and social media is being run to undermine the Federal Parliamentary form of Government.

The second resolution moved by Zeeshan Khanzada and others recommended that Members of Parliament who have been accredited and designated by the Foreign Governments be appointed as Honorary Consul General of particular country in Pakistan.

The last resolution moved by Zeeshan Khanzada recommended that the Government should take steps for running passenger and freight trains between Quetta and Zahidan to facilitate travelling from Pakistan to Iran.

The Senate also passed “The Constitution (Amendment) Bill, 2022”, “The Price Control and Prevention of Profiteering and Hoarding (Amendment) Bill, 2022” and “The Protection of Journalists and Media Professionals (Amendment) Bill, 2022.”

The Chair referred the bills to the standing committees concerned.

The House will now meet at 10:30 am on Tuesday.

Australia’s legendary fast bowler, Brett Lee is all praise for Pakistan captain, Babar Azam. In a video shared by former Pakistan pace star, Shoaib Akhtar, Brett Lee can be seen lauding Babar Azam’s batting style, as he terms his cover drive as ‘the best cover drive in the world.’

There are often comparisons between Babar Azam and Virat Kohli especially because of the elegant cover drive the two possess. Lee’s comments will further fuel the debate, however, he has had his say on the matter, declaring Babar’s cover drive as the best in cricket.

Appreciating the 27-year-old star batsman, Brett Lee said, “What a technique. What an amazing technique.” Talking to Shoaib Akhtar, Brett Lee added, “When you talk about cover drives, I think he could have the best cover drive in the world cricket.”

Stylish Pakistan batsman has earned reputation for his strokeplay with the bat, among which drive through the covers is top-class. Known for his class, Babar Azam has garnered plenty of appreciation from all around the globe but Brett Lee acknowledging him as the best player of the cover drive is surely something to make the headlines.

Star Pakistani batsman is currently the world’s top batsman in both limited-overs formats. However, in the Test cricket rankings, he is at ninth position but he continues to impress everyone with his classy playing style.

Updated PSL 2022 Points Table After Multan’s Nervy Win Over Quetta

Multan Sultans continued their winning run in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 7 as they defeated Quetta Gladiators by 6 runs. Multan became the first side in PSL 2022 to successfully defend their total and as a result, they maintained their top spot in the PSL points table. Similarly, Quetta also maintained their third spot in the points table despite losing the match.

Multan batters managed to stay put in a sluggish pitch at National Stadium Karachi with opener Shan Masood playing yet another magnificent half-century. Late fireworks from Tim David and Khushdil Shah helped them to a respectable total of 174/4.

Quetta managed to cruise along the run-chase until Imran Tahir and Khushdil Shah struck back in the middle phase of the innings. Quetta’s run-chase faltered as they lost wickets at regular intervals. Iftikhar Ahmed staged an epic comeback for Quetta as he struck Imran Khan Sr. for 24 runs in the 17th over. Despite his best efforts though, Multan managed to hang on and win their third successive match in the tournament.
