LB Polls: ECP directs extra security at women and sensitive polling stations

Secretary Election Commission KP, Omar Hameed Khan has directed for implementation of code of conduct and provision of extra security at women and sensitive polling stations in the local bodies elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

He gave these directives at a review meeting regarding local bodies elections in Peshawar today [Thursday].

The Secretary further directed that proper security arrangements should be made in the offices of Deputy Returning Officers and Returning Officers for compiling of results.

Nation pays tribute to General Iftikhar Janjua

Pakistanis pay tribute to General Iftikhar Janjua who laid his life on this day for the protection of motherland during the battle of Chamb in 1971 war.

General Iftikhar Janjua was a brilliant and charismatic leader who inspired his troops to continue to fight during the war.

He was assigned the task of capturing Chamb, a strategically important town in Kashmir, which turned out decisive victory for Pakistan on the Kashmir front of 1971.

He was leading from the front for which General Iftikhar Janjua is remembered even today by the troops who served in 23 Division during the Battle of Chamb.

It was this quality which enabled him to arrive at a realistic appraisal of the actual situation without undue reliance on exaggerated reports from lower echelons and successfully take Chamb.

State land worth over Rs 21 bln retrieved across the Punjab: DG ACE

Director General Anti-Corruption Establishment Punjab Gohar Nafees has said that Anti-Corruption department has retrieved state land worth over twenty-one billion rupees across the Punjab.

Talking to Radio Pakistan Lahore correspondent Ahmad Kamal in connection with ‘International Anti-Corruption Day’ today, the DG said so far the department arrested more than 2000 government officials on the charges of corruption this year.

Sindh Announces Winter Vacations for Schools and Colleges

The Sindh government, on Thursday, announced winter holidays for all public and private schools and colleges across the province.

The Sindh Education and Literacy Department (SELD) said that the schools and colleges will remain closed from 20th December 2021 to 1st January 2022.

The decision was made during the education department’s meeting, chaired by the Sindh Education Minister, Syed Sardar Ali Shaha.

According to the decision, the schools across the province will reopen from Monday, 3rd January 2022.

Last week, the Balochistan government had announced the closure of all public and private schools from 15th December 2021 for winter vacations.

In an official notification, the provincial education ministry had explained that schools situated in winter zones will remain closed till the end of February, while those in the summer zones will reopen from 1st January 2022.

Earlier, the Punjab government had decided to close schools across the province thrice a week, starting 27th November, to counter prevailing smog.

“Starting 15 November till 27 January, the public and private schools and all private offices shall remain closed on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday,” the notification had said.
