Tirah valley: Drug cultivation and supply in Tirah Valley take place under the patronage of criminal elements and political backing.
According to Radio Pakistan, a significant video has surfaced exposing the political-terror-crime nexus operating in the valley. The footage clearly shows drug crops being harvested under the supervision of criminal groups. It also reveals that, following the harvest, the drugs are loaded into vehicles and distributed to various regions.
Sources indicate that approximately 12,000 acres of land in Khyber and Tirah are used for drug cultivation, generating profits ranging from 1.8 to 2.5 million rupees per acre. A substantial portion of this income reportedly goes to Fitna al-Khawarij.
It is important to note that terrorism in Tirah Valley, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, is largely attributed to this entrenched political-terror-crime nexus. This nexus is a key factor behind the opposition to counter-terrorism operations in the region.
Sources further affirm that security agencies remain resolute in their efforts to dismantle the illegal drug trade being conducted under the protection of political and criminal elements.
