Reforms Indispensable to Align Pakistan’s Civil Service with Int’l Standards: PM

Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif says comprehensive reforms are indispensable to align Pakistan's civil service with international standards and global best practices. He was chairing a review meeting in Islamabad today regarding civil services reforms and performance appraisal system in Ministries.

According to Radio Pakistan, the Prime Minister advised to formulate comprehensive and effective recommendations to evaluate the performance of federal secretaries. He added that appreciation of officers showing good performance is essential for the overall improvement of the civil service.

Shehbaz Sharif further directed the relevant committee to finalize evolutionary yet effective and comprehensive reform recommendations for the country's civil service at the earliest. He said recommendations should be prepared for a system linking officers' promotions, financial benefits, and other facilities to a comprehensive performance evaluation.

The Prime Minister said objective of civil service reforms is to ensure visible improvement in the lives of the people through efficient public service delivery and provision of better facilities. He also emphasized meaningful consultations with stakeholders from the civil administration, all services, and groups while finalizing the proposed civil service reforms.

Shehbaz Sharif underscored that the civil service is the backbone of governance and public welfare in any country. He instructed the committee constituted for civil service reforms to propose recommendations that are practical, sustainable, and capable of providing effective public facilitation. The committee briefed the Prime Minister on the progress made so far, including consultations and proposed recommendations.
