President Asif Ali Zardari has urged media to educate people about breast cancer to save thousands of precious lives. In his message on International Day against Breast Cancer, being observed today, he stressed on the need to raise awareness about this disease by addressing misconceptions and prioritizing healthy lifestyle adjustments. The President said one in every nine women is at risk of breast cancer in Pakistan and the late diagnosis of the disease considerably contributes to the high mortality rate. He said Pakistan needs broader level efforts to educate women about breast cancer, regular self-examination and mammographic screening. Asif Ali Zardari urged country's policymakers and health officials to plan and prioritize disease control activities, including improved treatment and individual patient care. He emphasized the need to ensure that our women have access to screening and early detection services which are critical in diagnosis of breast cancer early and saving lives. Prime Minister Sheh baz Sharif has called upon all stakeholders especially media to galvanize efforts towards a holistic and well-coordinated awareness campaign at the national level to raise awareness about breast cancer. In a message on the occasion of International Day Against Breast Cancer Day, he said we can effectively combat this disease by focusing on early detection and treatment, as there is a ninety eight percent chance of permanent recovery when breast cancer is diagnosed in its early stages. He said with our collective efforts, we can significantly reduce breast cancer mortality in Pakistan and provide hope for a healthier future for all women. Source: Radio Pakistan
