Srinagar: Kashmiris on both sides of the Line of Control and around the world observed Jammu Martyrs’ Day on Thursday to reaffirm their commitment to the struggle for their UN-recognized right to self-determination.
According to Radio Pakistan, November 6 marks a significant and tragic moment in Kashmir’s history, when a vast number of Muslims were killed by forces of Dogra ruler Maharaja Hari Singh, the Indian Army, and RSS-backed Hindu extremists in the Jammu region.
In Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, posters have emerged in various areas, paying tribute to the martyrs of the 1947 Jammu massacre. According to Kashmir Media Service, these posters, seen in Srinagar, Pulwama, Baramulla, and other parts of the Jammu region, called for unity, resistance, and the continuation of the struggle against India’s rule. The messages praised the sacrifices of the Jammu martyrs and pledged that their mission for freedom from Indian occupation would be pursued with unwavering determination.
Meanwhile, Indian troops have continued extensive cordon and search operations in Kishtwar and Poonch districts of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir for the second day. According to Kashmir Media Service, this large-scale joint operation involved the Indian Army, paramilitary, and police personnel. Similar operations proceeded in the Balakote-Mendhar area of Poonch district, where Indian troops launched new searches.
People across Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir honored the 1947 martyrs, who were killed by Dogra forces and Hindutva mobs in the former princely state of Jammu and Kashmir. APHC spokesman Advocate Abdul Rashid Minhas, speaking at a function led by Hurriyat leaders in Srinagar, stated that the Jammu region experienced severe ethnic cleansing by the forces of Maharaja Hari Singh and RSS-affiliated cadres in November 1947.
Event speakers condemned the massacre as a crime against humanity and called for its denunciation by all. The APHC urged authorities and the international community to ensure that such crimes are remembered and that the martyrs’ mission is carried forward until Kashmiris achieve their right to self-determination.
