Emergency Declared in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with Governor’s Rule and Advisory Council

Islamabad:An emergency and Governor's Rule have been declared in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, as announced by Minister for Law and Justice Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar. This decision, made by the President on the advice of the Prime Minister, was enacted under Articles 232 and 234 of the Constitution.

According to Radio Pakistan, the provincial government led by the Chief Minister has ceased to function, with all its powers now transferred to the Governor. An eleven-member Advisory Council has been formed to assist the Governor in administering the province's affairs.

Additionally, a separate Secretariat has been established to manage the administration of twelve districts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which will be directly overseen by the Federation. Under Article 245 of the Constitution, the army has been deployed to support the Governor in maintaining law and order.

The imposition of emergency was described as a constitutional measure necessary due to the deteriorating security situation and the lack of cooperation from the KP government in counter-terrorism efforts. There has been a 196 percent increase in incidents of terrorism and extremism in the province over the past two and a half years, along with a rise in attacks on installations and law enforcement personnel.

Separate sessions of the National Assembly and the Senate, along with a Joint sitting of the Parliament, will be convened within the next few days to ratify these measures.
