Karachi, The Greater Karachi Bulk Water Supply Scheme, commonly known as the K-IV project, is on track to complete its first phase by 2025. This phase will deliver 260 million gallons per day (MGD) of water to the city, addressing some of its critical water shortages.
According to Zameen.Com, significant advancements have been made in the construction of the K-IV project. The Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) is managing the project, which will ultimately increase the city's water supply by 650 MGD once both phases are operational. The first phase alone, costing PKR 126 billion, aims to significantly alleviate water scarcity issues in Karachi.
Originally approved in 2014 by the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) government, the project's funding was estimated at PKR 25.552 billion, with a joint commitment from the Pakistan Peoples' Party (PPP) government covering half of the initial costs. The ongoing efforts underscore a significant governmental collaboration to enhance the urban infrastructure of Pakistan's largest city.
