DPM constitutes inquiry committee on Bishkek incident

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has constituted an inquiry committee to probe into the factors and causes that led to mob attacks on Pakistani students at Bishkek in Kyrgyzstan. Addressing a news conference along with Foreign Secretary Syrus Sajjad Qazi in Islamabad today, he said the committee will also investigate about the role of Pakistani Mission at Bishkek for facilitation of students. The Foreign Minister said the committee will coordinate with Kyrgyz authorities and review all the findings and developments at Bishkek and submit its report within two weeks. He said three thousand two hundred thirty-three students have been brought back from Bishkek so far, while a total of four thousand thirty-six would be repatriated to Pakistan till today. The Foreign Minister said after attending SCO Council of Foreign Ministers meeting at Astana in Kazakhstan, he visited Kyrgyzstan to take stock of situation following riots and mob attacks on Pakistani students at Bishkek. He said during his interaction there, the Kyrgyz Deputy Prime Minister informed him that situation in Bishkek is totally under the control and normalcy returned there. He further guaranteed that perpetrators of the riots would be punished according to law. Ishaq Dar also informed that eleven hundred Pakistani nationals are currently working in different industries and doing jobs in Kyrgyzstan and the Kyrgyz government is planning to deport them due to their illegal stay there. The Foreign Minister said during his meeting, he also requested the Kyrgyz Deputy Prime Minister to regularize their stay instead of deporting them and he agreed to my proposal. He said the Kyrgyz authorities informed that the riots were not Pakistan-specific and students hailing from other countries including Bangladesh, India and some Arab countries were also targeted. Ishaq Dar said the Kyrgyz authorities assured him that they have zero-tolerance towards violent incidents and also have rounded up scores of people involved in these riots. Reply ing to a question, the Foreign Minister said Kyrgyzstan has a huge potential to accommodate Pakistani skilled workforce and the government will take all out measures to export Pakistani human capital there. Fake PIA Pilot Arrested at Lahore Airport

The Airport Security Force (ASF) apprehended an individual impersonating a Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) pilot at Lahore's Allama Iqbal International Airport on Tuesday. According to a statement by the ASF spokesperson, Ahmed was attempting to gain access to the international departure lounge using a fake PIA pilot identification card. The spokesperson added that the fake pilot was handed over to the Airport Police for further legal action. Furthermore, authorities have registered a case against Ahmed and an investigation has been launched. It should be recalled that following the pilots' license scandal, the European Aviation Agency imposed a ban on all Pakistani airlines in July 2020. Pakistani officials expect the ban to be lifted in the coming months after a recent meeting. According to the chief executive officer of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), it would resume its operations in Europe with two weekly flights to Paris in June and July. Pakistan and Turkiye have agreed to further enhance cooperation in various sectors. This agreement was made during a meeting between Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif with Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yilmaz and Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan at a memorial ceremony held in honour of the late Iranian President Dr. Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi and his companions in Tehran. Govt focusing on establishment of Industrial Parks, SEZs: Tanveer

Minister for Industries and Production, Rana Tanveer Hussain has said that government is focusing on the establishment of Industrial Parks and Special Economic Zones to promote the industrial activity. He was talking to a delegation of leading South Korean companies led by Ambassador of Korea to Pakistan, Park Ki Jun, which called on him in Islamabad today. Matters related to mutual interest, including bilateral cooperation and the challenges faced by Korean companies in Pakistan also came under discussion. The Minister welcomed the ambassador and his delegation and said that Pakistan and Republic of Korea enjoy historical and cordial relations. Glacier Burst and Flood Warning Issued for KP and GB

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a critical warning about the imminent threat of glacier bursts and subsequent flooding in the mountainous regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Gilgit-Baltistan (GB). This alert comes as the regions face an extreme heatwave, increasing the risk of Glacial Lake Outburst Floods (GLOF). 'Given the rising temperatures and meteorological conditions, there is an increased likelihood of GLOF, severe floods, landslides, and strong winds in the mountainous regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan from May 21 to 27,' the NDMA stated. The Pakistan Meteorological Department's recent prediction of potential GLOF incidents in KP and GB has prompted the NDMA to issue specific directives to the Provincial Disaster Management Authorities (PDMA) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the Gilgit-Baltistan Disaster Management Authority (GBDMA). The Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) has been closely monitoring areas prone to GLOF, providing cruc ial data to assist in preparedness efforts. In response, the NDMA has stressed the importance of conducting mock drills in high-risk areas to ensure readiness for timely evacuation and emergency response. The Provincial Disaster Management Authorities have been instructed to: Coordinate Closely: Engage with relevant departments to arrange and pre-position necessary supplies and equipment in anticipation of disruptions, road closures, damage, or emergencies in vulnerable areas. Ensure Personnel Availability: Guarantee the availability of personnel to manage and respond to emergencies effectively. Alert Local Communities and Tourists: Inform the local community, tourists, and travelers in high-risk areas to remain vigilant and avoid unnecessary travel or movement. Conduct Mock Drills: Facilitate timely evacuation and ensure the safety of lives and property by conducting mock drills and maintaining constant communication. Residents and visitors in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan are urged to stay i nformed through official channels and adhere to safety advisories issued by authorities.
