Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has termed transparency as the topmost priority of government in the process of outsourcing the Islamabad International Airport. Talking to the delegation of Istanbul Grand Airport in Lahore today before the departure of Saudi Arabia, he said that firstly, Pakistan is offering to outsource some commercial operations of Islamabad International Airport under Public Private Partnership. The Prime Minister revealed that steps are being taken to augment the facilities for passengers at Islamabad, Karachi and Lahore airports. He said that Pakistan is heading towards economic prosperity very fast and its dependence on public private partnership is also being accelerated. Shehbaz Sharif said that there is an enormous potential of investment and partnership in urban development sector. Welcoming the foreign businessmen and investors from all over the world, he expressed keen interest to promote the investment and partnership from Turkiye. Preparations for the annual pilgrimage season are underway in Pakistan. As Hajj 2024 approaches, the national flag carrier is preparing to facilitate thousands of pilgrims embarking on the sacred journey to Saudi Arabia. Pakistan is scheduled to commence Hajj flights to Saudi Arabia on May 9th. This year, the Hajj flights in the country will begin in the second week of May and will continue until the following month. The focus will be on maintaining discipline and uniformity during the pilgrimage. The authorities have made it mandatory for all the pilgrims to rece ive vaccination ten days before Hajj flights commence. Pilgrims will be equipped with essential items including a suitcase, hand-carry bag, shoe bag, Ihram belt, and a green scarf featuring the Pakistani flag. The Governor of Punjab and Chairman of the Aitchison Board of Governors have amended a college rule, which recently created a major controversy. According to details, the Governor approved a 50 percent fee waiver for students availing reservation of seats during leave or absence. It should be recalled that last month, Punjab Governor Balighur Rehman directed the waiver of fees for the sons of the Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Establishment Division, Ahad Cheema. This decision sparked strong reactions, including the resignation of the college principal, Michael A. Thomson, in protest. Thompson tendered his resignation citing 'prejudiced actions by Governor House' and describing them as 'unwarranted interference and brazen directives'. Recently, the college's Board of Governors (BoG) accepted the resignation of Principal Michael A. Thomson and appointed Amina Kamran as the acting principal. It should be noted that this wasn't the first time that the former Aitchison principal had resigned from his post due to political interference. He had tendered his resignation in September 2018, allegedly under pressure from political circles after he took disciplinary action against certain students. According to reports at that time, the principal was under pressure from the BoG of the college to admit the son of former MNA Kashmala Tariq into A-levels after he had been expelled earlier.
