Islamabad: World Bank and Islamic Development Bank hailed the ongoing reforms in the power sector initiated by the government. The appreciation came during a meeting of high-level delegations from both bodies who called on Minister for Power Sardar Awais Ahmed Khan Leghari.
According to Radio Pakistan, the Federal Minister briefed the delegations on the ongoing reforms in the power sector. He highlighted that the reduction in circular debt by 780 billion rupees is a result of the government's reform policy. The minister also noted that power plants running on imported coal are being converted to utilize local Thar coal.
Minister Leghari further mentioned that relief packages for industrial and agricultural consumers are expected to increase electricity demand in the country. He reiterated that sustainable and effective reforms in the energy sector are the government's top priority and emphasized that partnership with global financial institutions is essential to address energy challenges.
The minister also detailed that comprehensive reforms are underway across all sectors of electricity generation, transmission, and distribution.
