Uzma Gillani Celebrates Radio Pakistan as “Mother of All Institutions”


Lahore: Renowned actress Uzma Gillani has described Radio Pakistan as the “mother of all institutions,” acknowledging its immense contribution to the growth of artists and the broadcasting industry. Speaking at a ceremony held at Radio Pakistan’s Lahore Station, she reflected on her journey, which began in 1969 when she joined Radio Pakistan as a broadcaster on the programme Pasbaan. She recalled her involvement in various broadcasting formats, including Ramazan transmissions, and praised the opportunities Radio Pakistan has provided for artists like herself.



According to Radio Pakistan, Uzma Gillani considers herself privileged to have worked with legendary figures of the literary and broadcasting world such as Ashfaq Ahmed, Akhlaq Ahmed Dehalvi, and Bano Qudsia. Renowned actor Sohail Ahmed, speaking at the ceremony, extended a warm invitation to Uzma Gillani to visit Radio Pakistan and PTV, offering to share her vast experience with the younger generation working within these prestigious institutions.



Actor Salman Shahid also lauded Gillani’s remarkable career, saying that her body of work speaks volumes about her talent and contribution to the arts. Dr. Qaisar Sharif, General Manager of PTV, emphasized that Uzma Gillani has consistently brought grace and brilliance to both PTV and Radio Pakistan, earning widespread recognition for her artistic excellence.



In his tribute, Dr. Tariq Sharifzada highlighted that Gillani’s exceptional talent is widely acknowledged, even across the borders, bringing immense pride to the nation. Actor and producer Sarmad Sultan Khoosat praised Uzma Gillani for upholding the highest standards of artistic excellence, noting that there remains much to learn from her legacy.



Former Producer of Radio Pakistan, Riaz Mehmood, expressed that Gillani’s dedication to her craft exemplifies her deep commitment to the arts. Addressing the gathering, Dr. Ahmer Sohail Basra, Station Director of Radio Pakistan Lahore, reaffirmed that Radio Pakistan continues to uphold its golden tradition of nurturing the creative arts, fostering the growth and development of the artist community.



Radio Pakistan’s Lahore correspondent, Ghulam Haider, reports that Uzma Gillani also toured the various studios of Radio Pakistan, reminiscing about the remarkable journey that has defined her career and cemented her place as a true icon in the world of broadcasting.
