Islamabad: Pakistan Armed Forces have a distinguished and long history of peacekeeping with the United Nations. Pakistan joined the United Nations peacekeeping mission on 30th of September in 1947 and deployed its first contingent to the United Nations’ operations in Congo in 1969.
According to Radio Pakistan, overall, Pakistan participated in 48 joint missions with more than 237,000 troops in about 31 countries around the world. During these missions, 182 soldiers, including 27 officers, also sacrificed their lives.
Today, at the 80th Anniversary of the United Nations, Pakistan is also celebrating its golden history for establishing peace through UN peacekeeping missions.
