Lahore: Polling for by-elections in six National Assembly and seven Punjab Assembly constituencies have been completed and counting of votes is underway. The polling started at eight in the morning and continued till five in the evening without any break.
According to Radio Pakistan, for the National Assembly, voting was held in NA-18 Haripur, NA-96 Faisalabad, NA-104 Faisalabad, NA-129 Lahore, NA-143 Sahiwal, and NA-185 D.G. Khan. Meanwhile, polling for provincial assembly seats was conducted in PP-73 Sargodha, PP-87 Mianwali, PP-98 Faisalabad, PP-115 Faisalabad, PP-116 Faisalabad, PP-203 Sahiwal, and PP-269 Muzaffargarh. These constituencies fell vacant following the disqualification of several lawmakers related to cases from the May 9 events.
Personnel of Pakistan Army have been deployed to maintain security for the by-elections. The Provincial Election Commissioner Punjab has taken strict notice of reports regarding voters taking photographs of their ballot papers in Faisalabad and posting them on social media. He directed the relevant authorities to take appropriate action against individuals involved in the violation of the election code of conduct.
