UN Vital for Coordinating Global Responses to Emerging and Long-Term Challenges: Asim

New york: Pakistan's Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, has stated that the United Nations remains crucial for coordinating global responses to emerging and long-term challenges, including artificial intelligence, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and climate change. He conveyed this message while addressing a group of twenty students from Manhattan University who visited the Pakistan Mission for a briefing on Pakistan's engagement with the UN System.

According to Radio Pakistan, Ambassador Ahmad emphasized the growing necessity of multilateral cooperation in a rapidly evolving world. He highlighted the importance of the UN in fostering collaboration and addressing global issues.

On the topic of Security Council reforms, the Permanent Representative expressed Pakistan's stance against adding new permanent members. He argued that expanding permanent seats would not resolve current imbalances and might deepen divisions, leading to increased institutional dysfunction.

Ambassador Ahmad voiced Pakistan's support for increasing non-permanent membership as part of the Uniting for Consensus (UfC) Group's efforts. This approach aims to make the Security Council more democratic, representative, efficient, and accountable.
