Terrorist Groups’ Access to Illicit Arms Threatens Peace: Asim


New york: At the UN, Pakistan has warned that Afghanistan-based terrorist groups’ access to illicit arms threatens regional peace. In a national statement at the UN Security Council Open Debate on Small Arms, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, urged the international community to make stronger efforts to prevent access of illicit arms to armed terrorist groups in Afghanistan.



According to Radio Pakistan, Ambassador Ahmad emphasized the need for Afghan interim authorities to adhere to their international obligations and commitments in preventing the proliferation of illicit arms. The statement called for concerted international actions to address the threat posed by these arms to regional stability.



The ambassador’s remarks highlighted concerns about the potential escalation of violence and instability in the region if terrorist groups continue to gain access to such weapons. The call to action underscored the importance of collaboration between nations to address this issue and ensure peace in the region.
