Islamabad: The Supreme Court’s Constitutional Bench has accepted the review petitions in the reserved seats case, setting aside its 12 July 2024 verdict. The decision marks a significant development in the ongoing legal proceedings concerning the allocation of reserved seats.
According to Radio Pakistan, the petitions were accepted by a majority of seven judges to five. The announcement was made by the head of the Constitutional bench, Justice Aminuddin Khan, in Islamabad. This decision upholds the earlier ruling by the Peshawar High Court, which had denied reserved seats to the PTI-backed Sunni Ittehad Council.
The acceptance of these review petitions highlights the complexities surrounding the allocation of reserved seats and the legal interpretations involved. The outcome is expected to have implications for the political dynamics within the region, particularly affecting the stakeholders involved in the case.
