Sultan of Brunei Holds Bilateral Talks with German President

Bandar seri begawan: His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam attended a bilateral meeting with the Federal President of the Federal Republic of Germany. At the meeting, His Majesty expressed appreciation for Germany's support and contributions to Brunei's development, including collaborations in the Muara Maritime Services joint venture, Lufthansa Technik in aviation, and operations of the Brunei Fertilizer plant.

According to Radio Television Brunei, His Majesty also highlighted the close cooperation between Brunei and Germany in international forums, such as the United Nations. He reaffirmed Brunei's support for Germany's candidacy for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council for the 2027-2028 term and expressed gratitude for Germany's backing of Brunei's candidacy for the Vice-Presidency of the United Nations General Assembly in 2028-2029.

On regional and international matters, His Majesty shared updates on ASEAN and expressed concern over developments in the Middle East, Palestine, and Lebanon. He reiterated Brunei's support for an independent State of Palestine based on a two-state solution with pre-1967 borders. His Majesty emphasized the importance of continued efforts by European partners to reduce tensions and promote peaceful resolutions in line with the United Nations Charter.

During the meeting, discussions included upcoming engagements, such as visits to German companies like Lufthansa Technik, and potential enhancements in industrial and defense cooperation. The talks aimed at strengthening economic and defense technology partnerships, expanding collaboration in the nano sector, and leveraging existing contacts in German industry. The leaders acknowledged the interconnectedness of security in Southeast Asia and Europe amid global tensions, emphasizing the necessity for deeper ASEAN-EU cooperation to ensure regional stability. His Majesty extended an invitation to the Federal President for a State Visit to Brunei Darussalam.
