Islamabad: Minister for National Food Security and Research Rana Tanveer Hussain has inaugurated Speed Breeding facilities for wheat and pulses, along with a Smart Glasshouse, in Islamabad. Speaking on the occasion, Rana Tanveer Hussain emphasized that the initiative is aligned with national priorities such as enhancing food security, promoting climate-resilient agriculture, and boosting farmers’ income.
According to Radio Pakistan, the minister highlighted that the faster breeding of cereals and pulses will significantly contribute to increasing local production, thereby reducing reliance on imports. The Smart Glasshouse is described as a future-ready facility, integrating modern plant breeding techniques, digital agriculture, and sustainable food production methods.
Rana Tanveer further noted that the new technology will be instrumental in addressing challenges associated with climate change and the efficient use of resources. He also underscored the government’s commitment to expanding such research initiatives and enhancing collaboration with both national and international partners.
