Shrimp Estates to Boost Punjab’s Economy Through Blue Economy Initiative


Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has announced the development of shrimp estates in Sargodha and Alipur, highlighting the potential for increased exports and economic growth in the province. The initiative is part of a larger Blue Economy project aimed at transforming barren and saline lands into productive areas, thereby fostering sustainable development.



According to Radio Pakistan, Maryam Nawaz, during a meeting in Lahore, emphasized the significance of the Blue Economy project, describing it as the largest initiative of its kind in Punjab. The project will see the development of a total of 5,600 acres dedicated to shrimp estates in Sargodha and Alipur, marking a new chapter in the province’s agricultural advancement.



The meeting further revealed that nine ponds, covering 20 acres, have already been prepared for shrimp farming. These ponds have been stocked with shrimp seed as part of research efforts to optimize farming techniques and ensure the success of the project. The endeavor is expected to not only boost exports but also create new opportunities for sustainable economic development across the region.
