Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has handed over the keys of fifty electric vehicles to the Islamabad Police to promote modern, safe and environment-friendly policing. He handed over the keys to Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Inspector General of Islamabad Police Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi at a ceremony in the Federal Capital today. Addressing the ceremony, the Prime Minister said the protection of the lives and property of citizens is government's foremost priority. He said the government is providing all possible resources to equip the Islamabad Police with modern policing capabilities.
According to Radio Pakistan, the Prime Minister appreciated Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi's performance in modernizing the Islamabad Police, urging that it should serve as a role model for other cities of the country. He emphasized that the police force is being equipped with modern technology, equipment, and necessary resources to ensure a safe environment for citizens in the federal capital.
The provision of new electric vehicles is part of an initiative to promote environment-friendly and green policing. The Prime Minister highlighted that the use of modern technology would enhance police performance and services provided to citizens. During the ceremony, Inspector General of Islamabad Police briefed the Prime Minister on the newly established Capital Patrol force, which aims to strengthen security in the federal capital.
The Prime Minister was informed that the new force aligns with his vision of a safe, smart, and green capital. The Capital Patrol force will consist of two hundred police personnel, with each patrol unit including one male and one female officer. Motorcycle-riding police personnel will be part of the force to ensure rapid response and effective patrolling.
All personnel of the Capital Patrol force will be equipped with body cameras to enhance transparency, monitoring, and accountability in policing. The fifty electric vehicles provided for the Capital Patrol force are expected to significantly reduce fuel costs and positively impact the environment. The use of these vehicles is projected to save around 34 million rupees monthly in fuel costs, with the cost of each vehicle being recovered in approximately ten and a half months.
The Prime Minister expressed appreciation for the Islamabad Police's efforts in utilizing modern technology, promoting green policing, and ensuring citizen protection. He directed that all necessary steps be taken to further strengthen and enhance the effectiveness of the modern policing system. The event was also attended by Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar, Minister Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, and Minister of State Talal Chaudhry.
