Islamabad: The Senate resumed its discussion on the federal budget for the upcoming financial year, focusing on various fiscal strategies and policy recommendations.
According to Radio Pakistan, Senator Dost Ali Jeesar recommended a significant increase in the federal Public Sector Development Program (PSDP) allocation by up to 15,000 billion rupees. He also proposed a 25 percent salary increase for government employees. Muhammad Abdul Qadir highlighted the importance of focusing on the export sector, suggesting measures to enhance the value addition of export products.
Jam Saifullah Khan proposed incentives for the electric vehicle sector to support the transition to clean energy and promote environmentally friendly transportation in the country. Hidayatullah Khan stressed the need to prioritize the welfare of poor people and the development of the agriculture sector in the budget.
Rubina Qaim Khani suggested increasing the budget allocations for health and education sectors. Husna Bano recommended implementing zero tax on solar panels, noting their widespread use among the poor and low-income classes in the country. Muhammad Aslam Abro demanded the withdrawal of the carbon levy on vehicles until the local manufacturing of electric vehicles is scaled up. He also called for reducing electricity prices in areas that experience the highest temperatures during the summer months.
Earlier in the session, the house passed the Civil Servants Amendment Bill 2025, which was moved by Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar. Additionally, two bills were introduced in the House: the Criminal Laws Amendment Bill 2025 and the Legal Practitioners and Bar Councils Amendment Bill 2025. These bills have been referred to the concerned standing committees for further consideration.
