Senate Continued Discussion on Federal Budget 2025-26 with Focus on Minority Rights and Balochistan Development


Islamabad: The Senate resumed discussions on the federal budget for the upcoming financial year today, focusing on minority rights and the development of Balochistan. Minister for Law, Justice and Human Rights, Azam Nazeer Tarar, affirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring the dignity and protection of minority rights as outlined in the Constitution of Pakistan.



According to Radio Pakistan, Minister Tarar responded to a Point of Order by Senator Danesh Kumar, highlighting that special quasi-judicial provisions have been integrated into the National Commission for Minorities Rights Act, 2025. These provisions are designed to empower the Commission’s head, who will be a representative of the minority community, to conduct inquiries, issue directives, and impose penalties for non-compliance with the Commission’s orders.



Minister of State for Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony, Kesoo Mal Kheeal Das, informed the House about the recovery of abducted Hindu girls in Tharparkar by police, who were presented in court today. He reiterated that the Constitution of Pakistan grants equal rights to minorities within the country.



On another Point of Order, Azam Nazeer Tarar stated that the development of Balochistan remains a top priority for the government, with the Prime Minister personally overseeing special projects in the region. He announced the establishment of four Daanish Schools in the province to provide world-class education facilities to Baloch students, reaffirming the federal government’s commitment to the welfare of the Baloch people.



During the session, Shahadat Awan advocated for increased budgetary allocations for motorway projects in Sindh province, while Jan Muhammad Buledi stressed the need for a comprehensive plan in the budget to address issues in Balochistan, including education, health, and youth employment. Buledi emphasized the importance of taking concrete measures to address the grievances of the Baloch people.



The House was adjourned to reconvene at 12:30 pm tomorrow.
