Romina Calls for Equal Climate Finance at Islamabad Symposium

Islamabad: Coordinator to Prime Minister on Climate Change, Romina Khurshid Alam, has called for equal climate finance and shared global responsibilities to mitigate the impacts of climate change. Addressing a symposium in Islamabad today, she emphasized that access to climate finance is not merely about funds but is crucial for survival, dignity, and transformation.

According to Radio Pakistan, Romina Khurshid Alam highlighted that Pakistan’s coastal areas and communities are enduring the consequences of a crisis they did not initiate. She stressed that the government alone cannot shoulder the responsibility of mitigating the adverse effects of climate change. Therefore, she urged the private and corporate sectors to collaborate with the government in this endeavor.

Romina further underscored the specific impacts of climate change in Balochistan, noting that climate finance could unlock resilient infrastructure, bolster food and water security, support renewable energy solutions, and create sustainable livelihoods. She pointed out that such finance could also enhance the social economy of the region and uplift communities.

At the symposium, Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfaraz Bugti called on all stakeholders to unite in building a climate-resilient Balochistan, where sustainable development and environmental protection proceed concurrently.
