Islamabad: Speakers at a seminar in Islamabad have stressed that peace and stability will remain elusive in South Asia till the resolution of Jammu and Kashmir dispute. The seminar was organized by the Institute of Strategic Studies, Islamabad in collaboration with the Kashmir Institute of International Relations and the All Parties Hurriyat Conference to mark the Right to Self-Determination Day.
According to Radio Pakistan, the speakers highlighted the importance of the United Nations resolution of 5 January 1949, which established the principle that the fate of Jammu and Kashmir should be determined by the people of the territory through a free and impartial plebiscite under the auspices of the United Nations. They emphasized that it was India that originally brought the matter to the UN and accepted the proposed solution but later reneged on this agreement.
The participants of the seminar paid tribute to the resilience of the Kashmiri people, who continue to uphold their demand for the right to self-determination. They also reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering political, moral, and diplomatic support for the Kashmir cause.
Members of the think tank community, intellectuals, and a large number of students attended the event, engaging in discussions about the ongoing conflict and potential pathways to peace in the region.
