Singapore: Pakistan has called for strengthening the existing dialogue frameworks at bilateral, regional, and global levels to make them active and effective. The call was made by Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Sahir Shamshad Mirza while presenting Pakistan’s principled stance at the 22nd Shangri-La security Dialogue 2025 held in Singapore.
According to Radio Pakistan, General Mirza emphasized that the prevention of conflict is better than post-crisis efforts, asserting that Pakistan desires a global system based on sovereignty and restraint. He highlighted that negotiations are indispensable for the security of South Asia and pointed to recent Indo-Pak tensions, criticizing India’s use of water as a weapon of war, which he described as a clear violation of international law.
General Mirza reiterated the Pakistan National Security Committee’s firm position that any attempt to block or divert Pakistan’s waters will be considered an act of war. He identified the Kashmir dispute as the root cause of tension between Pakistan and India, stressing that its resolution in accordance with UN resolutions is crucial for peace in South Asia. He expressed Pakistan’s desire for lasting peace with India, based on dignity, equality, and mutual respect.
General Mirza noted Pakistan’s consistent demand for the restoration of a formal dialogue system with India and the international community, underscoring the situation since the Pahalgam incident as a threat to regional development. He also highlighted the lack of an effective crisis management system, which prevents timely intervention by world powers, and called for a durable crisis management foundation based on mutual restraint, recognition of red lines, and equilibrium.
