Islamabad: The National Assembly was informed today that rehabilitation work on the Neelum-Jhelum Hydropower Project will commence following an investigation into the collapse of its two tunnels. Minister for Water Resources, Muhammad Mueen Wattoo, addressed the House during Question Hour, stating that the final report from the three committees on the project is anticipated within a week. He noted that the rehabilitation work is projected to be completed within two years.
According to Radio Pakistan, Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Tariq Fazal Chaudhary informed the House that the federal government is developing a wheat policy for the upcoming year. This policy aims to incentivize wheat farmers and encourage private sector investment in the wheat sector supply chain.
Minister for Housing and Works Riaz Hussain Pirzada reported an acceleration in work on housing schemes. He mentioned entering into partnerships with the private sector for housing project development.
Minister of State for National Health Services Mukhtar Ahmad Malik, in his remarks, stated there is no shortage of medicines. He highlighted the encouragement and facilitation of generic drug manufacturing, as they are more affordable than branded drugs.
Parliamentary Secretary for National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination, Nelson Azeem, informed the National Assembly about significant healthcare reforms introduced over the past three years to align with global standards. During the question hour, he noted that fifty-four percent of Pakistan’s population currently has access to essential health services. He highlighted the Sehat Sahulat Programme, which offers free healthcare coverage to approximately 44.5 million families. He also mentioned the Drug Regulatory Authority’s role in promoting generic drug production by easing registration and supporting local manufacturing.
Meanwhile, the lower house passed nine bills. These included the Income Tax Amendment Bill, 2024, Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Amendment Bill, 2024, Extradition Amendment Bill, 2025, Pakistan Citizenship Amendment Bill, 2024, The Naturalization Amendment Bill, 2024, Civil Servants Amendment Bill, 2025, and the Anti Dumping Duties Amendment Bill, 2025. The House has been adjourned to meet again on Monday at five pm.
