Islamabad: Motorcycles, public service buses and vans, as well as goods transport vehicles such as trucks and long-vehicles registered with the Excise and Taxation Departments and other relevant authorities across the country, are eligible for the subsidy. This was stated by Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja, along with Minister of State for Finance Bilal Azhar Kayani, while addressing a news conference in Islamabad this afternoon.
According to Radio Pakistan, the Federal Government, in collaboration with the provincial governments, has devised a mechanism for the disbursement of the subsidy. Provinces have provided data on vehicles registered with their respective Excise and Taxation Departments, which is being used to transfer the subsidy to owners based on their Computerized National Identity Cards.
The disbursement of subsidies to public service buses and goods transport operators commenced last night, following the directions of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja emphasized the importance of this initiative in providing relief to vehicle owners.
Speaking on the occasion, Bilal Azhar Kayani mentioned that the government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, is taking measures to provide relief to the common people and protect them from the adverse impact of rising global petroleum prices.
