Recurring Climate Disasters Inflict Economic and Human Losses: Musadik

Karachi: Recurring climate disasters continue to inflict heavy economic and human losses, stated Federal Minister for Climate Change Dr. Musadik Masood Malik.

According to Radio Pakistan, addressing the 4th Pakistan Climate Conference 2026 in Karachi, Dr. Malik highlighted how these climate disasters are pushing vulnerable populations back into poverty and undermining economic stability, education, and social cohesion.

The Minister expressed concern over climate financing mechanisms, noting that 'green financing' often manifests as loans rather than grants. He pointed out that repurposed loans frequently divert funds originally allocated for health and education towards reconstruction and debt servicing.

Dr. Malik outlined a three-pillar strategy aimed at combating these challenges. He called for the restoration of existing environmental resources, the expansion of climate-resilient infrastructure, and the development of new systems designed to withstand climate shocks.
