Islamabad: Pakistan Railways and Allied Bank Limited today signed a Memorandum of Understanding for introducing a modern Point of Sale (PoS) system at 348 railway stations across the country. Under the agreement, the PoS system aims to modernize ticketing, streamline payment processes, and enhance the financial transparency of Pakistan Railways through automation.
According to Radio Pakistan, the initiative is part of the Prime Minister’s vision of “Digital Pakistan” and is expected to ensure a complete digital transformation of Pakistan Railways. Minister for Railways Muhammad Hanif Abbasi highlighted that the project will be completed within sixty days, allowing passengers to purchase tickets and access other railway services using credit and debit cards, thus reducing dependency on cash.
Hanif Abbasi emphasized that the introduction of the PoS system would help eliminate long queues and manual processes, leading to faster and more efficient commercial transactions. Additionally, it is anticipated that the system will help Pakistan Railways enhance its revenue and curtail financial fraud, theft, and accounting errors.
