Radio Pakistan on Path to Financial Sustainability: DG PBC

ISLAMABAD: Director General of Radio Pakistan, Saeed Ahmed Sheikh, has announced that the national broadcaster is making significant strides towards achieving financial sustainability. This statement was made during a detailed briefing session to the officers of the 43rd Mid-Career Management Course of the Information Group at the Information Service Academy in Islamabad.

According to Radio Pakistan, the session outlined a strategic roadmap for the revival of Radio Pakistan, focusing on a robust commercial business plan, enhancing administrative efficiency, and embracing digital transformation. DG PBC highlighted that each station has been assigned sales targets amounting to over one billion rupees in advertisement revenue. Additionally, efforts are being made to monetize under-utilized assets, such as buildings and open lands, with landmark projects under the Public Private Partnership Authority, including the establishment of pre-fabricated warehouses in Landhi, Karachi.

Saeed Ahmed Sheikh also discussed administrative reforms, revealing that Radio Pakistan has pioneered the development of an indigenous Digital Pension Management System. This system aims to eliminate ghost pensioners and ensure transparency. Cost-saving initiatives, such as an energy conservation campaign and efficient use of internal engineering capabilities, have significantly reduced operational expenditures.

The DG further emphasized the broadcaster’s drive towards technological transformation and outreach. Key developments include Antenna Realignment, converting the Murree Repeater Station into an FM Complex, and establishing a 300 KW solar grid station to enhance transmission quality and energy efficiency.

Saeed Ahmed Sheikh also spoke about integrating digital media platforms into Radio Pakistan’s content strategy. The broadcaster is expanding its reach through live global streaming, active engagement on platforms like Facebook, X, TikTok, and developing podcast studios nationwide. These efforts aim to connect with a younger, tech-savvy audience.

The session concluded on an optimistic note regarding Radio Pakistan’s future as a financially viable, administratively efficient, and digitally integrated national institution.
