Islamabad: Radio Pakistan has uploaded the online Urdu Talking Dictionary, ‘Lafz o Awaz ki Urdu Dictionary’, to its website on a trial basis. Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar is set to formally launch the dictionary soon.
According to Radio Pakistan, the dictionary contains accurate audio pronunciation and meanings of over 32,000 Urdu words, distinguishing it from other online Urdu dictionaries by offering authentic pronunciation. It provides both Urdu and Roman Urdu versions, catering to Urdu speakers worldwide.
The research, compilation, and voiceover work for the audio pronunciation were performed by Syed Khalid Waqar, who retired from Radio Pakistan as Controller Program. The idea was initiated by Deputy Controller Program Muhammad Atif, who led the planning, design, and implementation phases, including audio recording, editing, coding, and text formatting.
Lahore-based software engineer and solution architect Muhammad Mubeen Sheraz developed the software for the dictionary. The resource is accessible directly from the home page of Radio Pakistan’s website, radio.gov.pk.
