PU Hosts Cycling and Skating Rally to Celebrate World Olympic Day


Islamabad: In connection with World Olympic Day, Punjab University Department of Sports organized a cycling and skating rally from the Vice Chancellor’s Office to the Sports Gymnasium. On this occasion, PU VC Prof Dr Muhammad Ali, Registrar Dr Ahmed Islam, Director Sports Dr Shabbir Sarwar, Secretary Pakistan Cycling Federation Moazzam Khan, Ahmar Malik from Pakistan Olympic Association, faculty members, students, and children were present. PU VC Prof Dr Muhammad Ali participated in the rally by cycling, while children performed tricks in the Sports Gymnasium wearing skating shoes.



According to University of the Punjab, Prof Dr Muhammad Ali addressed the ceremony, highlighting the performance of the children in skating. He emphasized the importance of promoting healthy activities, noting that the screen time of the Pakistani nation is the highest among all nations. He stressed the need to engage children in sports, citing its benefits for mental and physical health. He added that children involved in sports tend to be more successful in practical life as sports instill discipline. Dr Muhammad Ali remarked on the significant import bill of medicines in Pakistan, stating that promoting sports can help reduce diseases. He also pointed out that PU New Campus offers an excellent environment for cycling and suggested that cycling promotion could contribute positively to the environment.



Dr Muhammad Shabbir Sarwar commended PU VC Dr Muhammad Ali for his efforts in promoting sports and remarked that organizing such events serves as a motivation for athletes.
