Lahore: Countrywide protests have erupted after the recent passage of the Waqf (Amendment) Bill by the Indian Parliament. According to Radio Pakistan, opposition parties, Muslims, and various organizations have staged protests, labeling the bill as unconstitutional and an act against minorities. A significant number of people took to the streets in regions such as Bihar, Manipur, Kolkata, Ranchi, and Ahmedabad to demonstrate against the amendments to the Bill. The largest protest occurred in Manipur, a state already experiencing tension due to the policies of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). In response to the unrest, Indian police are on high alert in Uttar Pradesh, where additional police personnel have been deployed in several sensitive districts, including Lucknow, Sambhal, Bahraich, Muradabad, Muzaffarnagar, and Saharanpur. Furthermore, some political leaders have filed petitions challenging the bill in the Indian Supreme and High Courts.
