Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari has reaffirmed the government's resolve to build a climate-resilient, low-carbon, and energy-secure Pakistan. In his message on the International Day of Clean Energy, he pledged support for developing and adopting technologies that sustain and improve the earth.
According to Radio Pakistan, the President emphasized the central role that clean, affordable, and sustainable energy plays in inclusive development, energy security, and the global response to climate change. He stated that the Government of Pakistan has prioritized the transition to clean energy within its climate and development agenda.
President Zardari highlighted Pakistan's vulnerability to the adverse impacts of climate change. Under its commitments to the UNFCCC, as outlined in the Nationally Determined Contributions 2025, Pakistan aims for 30 percent of electric vehicles by 2030. He reiterated that through its Nationally Determined Contribution and the National Climate Change Policy, Pakistan is committed to pursuing low-carbon development pathways.
In a statement, the Spokesperson of the Minister of Climate Change, Mohammad Saleem Shaikh, stated Pakistan's commitment to placing climate change education, communication, and youth-led advocacy at the core of national climate policy implementation. He emphasized the strong focus of Pakistan's National Climate Change Policy on public education and outreach to build broad awareness of climate risks and protect the country's natural capital.
