Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari received the credentials of Ambassador-designate of Italy Ugo Ciarlatani and Ambassador-designate of the Republic of Korea Han Sungho in Islamabad today [Wednesday].

According to Radio Pakistan, while engaging with Ambassador Ciarlatani, President Zardari expressed confidence that Ciarlatani's tenure would contribute to further strengthening the relations between Pakistan and Italy. The President highlighted the positive trajectory of bilateral ties, especially in trade and investment, with the bilateral trade volume having surpassed the one-billion-dollar mark. He also welcomed the recent agreement on the abolition of visa requirements for diplomatic passport holders.

President Zardari acknowledged Italy's support for Pakistan's bid for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council for the 2025-26 term. He emphasized the importance of the Pakistani community in Italy as a significant link between the two nations.

In his discussion with Ambassador Han Sungho, President Zardari underscored Pakistan's commitment to its multidimensional relationship with the Republic of Korea. He conveyed Pakistan's intent to further enhance trade and investment ties, mentioning the ongoing negotiations for a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement. He also expressed appreciation for the cooperation in areas such as climate change, development, and defense.

The President expressed optimism that collaboration between Pakistan and Korea in sectors including shipbuilding, technology, and economic development would continue to thrive.
