Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif have reiterated Pakistan’s moral, political, and diplomatic support to the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) in their just and peaceful struggle for the right to self-determination.
According to Radio Pakistan, in their separate messages on Right to Self-Determination Day, the leaders emphasized that this date marks the adoption of a United Nations resolution in 1949. This resolution recognized the right of people in IIOJK to determine their future through a free and impartial plebiscite.
President Zardari stated that the solemn commitment remains unfulfilled despite the passage of seven decades. Prime Minister Sharif highlighted that the world must recognize a just resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute as the only way to achieve durable peace in South Asia. He urged the international community to call upon India to reverse its unilateral and illegal actions of August 5, 2019, and grant the right to self-determination to the Kashmiri people.
