Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif have called upon all stakeholders, including the business community and industrialists, to uphold the dignity and protection of the country's labour force.
According to Radio Pakistan, in their separate messages on International Labour Day, they emphasized that a nation which protects its workers is securing its future. They highlighted that labour empowerment is essential for achieving lasting national strength and prosperity.
President Asif Ali Zardari reiterated Pakistan's commitment to maintaining international labour standards and promoting fundamental rights at work. This includes ensuring fair wages, social protection, the elimination of forced and child labour, and non-discrimination in workplaces across the country.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in his message, praised the national labour force, both domestic and overseas, as a testament to Pakistan's capability, industriousness, and professional excellence. He acknowledged the ongoing efforts of national institutions such as the Employees' Old-Age Benefits Institution and the Workers Welfare Fund. These institutions are dedicated to enhancing the welfare of workers and their families through services like pensions, housing, education, and other essential support systems.
