Doha: President Asif Ali Zardari has invited Tajikistan to explore new avenues of trade and connectivity through Pakistan, including the possibility of restoration of direct flights. The President extended the invitation while meeting President of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon, on the sidelines of the Second World Summit for Social Development in Doha, Qatar today.
According to Radio Pakistan, President Zardari emphasized the importance Pakistan places on its relationship with Tajikistan, highlighting the shared history, culture, and linguistic ties that bind the two nations. He reiterated Pakistan’s dedication to enhancing bilateral cooperation in various sectors including trade, investment, connectivity, energy, defence, and people-to-people exchanges.
The President noted that the Strategic Partnership Agreement signed in 2024 underscores the expanding ties between the two countries. He expressed optimism about the resumption of work on the CASA-1000 project, describing it as a flagship initiative for mutual prosperity.
President Zardari also praised the successful Dosti-II joint military exercise conducted in August and assured Tajikistan of Pakistan’s willingness to support in defence cooperation and capacity building. The discussion between the leaders also included perspectives on regional and global issues of common interest.
In a gesture of diplomatic goodwill, the President of Tajikistan extended an invitation to President Zardari to visit Tajikistan, an offer that was gladly accepted. The meeting was also attended by First Lady Bibi Aseefa Bhutto Zardari, Chairman PPP Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, and Pakistan’s Ambassador to Qatar.
