President IIUI Visits CAEPE and CIRBS, Reviews Research Facilities and Interacts with Faculty and Students


Islamabad: President of the International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) visited two key research centers – the Centre for Advanced Electronics and Photovoltaic Engineering (CAEPE) and the Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Basic Sciences (CIRBS) – to review their facilities and ongoing academic engagements.



According to International Islamic University Islamabad, at CAEPE, the President was received by Prof. Dr. Ahmed Shuja Syed, Prof. Dr. Imran Mirza, Dr. Gul Hasan, and Engr. Shoaib Alam, who provided a comprehensive briefing on the centre’s infrastructure, equipment, and research focus. The team highlighted the institutional support provided by the Islamic Development Bank, the Government of Pakistan, and other research grants, which have enabled the establishment of this facility. The delegation was also introduced to the nature of research projects underway and the user base that benefits from CAEPE’s facilities. A notable highlight of the visit was the President’s tour of Pakistan’s first ISO 5 Clean Room Facility, supporting research and development in electronics and photovoltaics.



Following this, the President proceeded to CIRBS, where he was welcomed by Dr. Mushtaq Ahmed (Dean, Faculty of Sciences) and Dr. Ikram Ullah, Head of CIRBS. During the visit, the President was given an overview of CIRBS’s labs and facilities. He interacted with students and faculty, observed research activities, and took interest in ongoing academic projects. The tour included briefings and walkthroughs of CIRBS laboratories: Process Chemistry Lab, Nano Science Lab, Material Science Lab, Environmental Monitoring Lab, General Lab, and Applied Microbiology and Molecular Biotechnology Lab.



At the Shared Block, the President also met with key faculty members, including Dr. Mushtaq Ahmed, Prof. Dr. Shumaila Sajjad, Dr. Maliha Asma, Dr. Farhan Younas, Dr. Ibra Shinwari, Dr. Waqar-un-Nisa, Dr. Tariq Rafiq, Dr. Rukhsanda Aziz, Dr. Riaz, Dr. Basharat Ali, Dr. Aliya Shehzadi, and Mr. Kashif, who shared insights into their respective research areas and ongoing initiatives.



President Alahmed appreciated the dedication of IIUI researchers and faculty in advancing interdisciplinary and applied research. He emphasized the university’s commitment to promoting a research-driven academic culture and supporting innovation that addresses scientific and societal challenges.
