President Highlights CPEC as Crucial for Regional Connectivity

Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari emphasized the significance of the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) as a key component to achieve the shared vision of Pakistan and China, enhancing regional connectivity and economic integration while fostering a peaceful neighborhood. He made these remarks during a meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Islamabad.

According to Radio Pakistan, President Zardari highlighted that CPEC is an integral part of Chinese President Xi Jinping's ambitious Belt and Road Initiative, underscoring its strategic importance for both nations. He described the relationship between Pakistan and China as enduring and steadfast, with both countries being "iron brothers" and all-weather strategic partners. Zardari reiterated that friendship with China is a fundamental aspect of Pakistan's foreign policy, enjoying widespread support across public, political, and institutional spheres.

The President expressed gratitude to China for its unwavering support for Pakistan's sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national development, as well as its principled stance on the Jammu and Kashmir issue. He also extended condolences for the lives lost in recent floods in Beijing and Gansu province.

Furthermore, Zardari noted that the year 2026 will mark the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and China, and he mentioned plans for a significant celebration of this milestone.

In response, Wang Yi remarked that the friendship between China and Pakistan has been sustained over generations, grounded in trust, credibility, and a robust all-weather strategic partnership.
