Power Minister Proposes Establishing CASA Energy Market


Islamabad: Minister for Power Sardar Awais Ahmed Khan Leghari has proposed establishing a CASA Energy Market to enable all regional countries to fully harness their energy potential. He was speaking with Minister for Energy of the Kyrgyz Republic Ibrarv Taalaibek Omukeevich during a meeting in Islamabad.



According to Radio Pakistan, Awais Leghari emphasized the need for a practical approach to implement the CASA-1000 project. He mentioned that Pakistan’s portion of the project is expected to be completed by the middle of next year. Additionally, he outlined a five-point framework for future bilateral energy cooperation, which includes the formation of a Joint Working Group on Hydropower Projects, collaborative efforts to progress the CASA-1000 project, and the establishment of dedicated Joint Working Groups to enhance collaboration.



Sardar Awais Leghari also highlighted the significance of Kyrgyz assistance in engaging the Afghan side to minimize volatility and promote regional connectivity. Both parties agreed to arrange an expert-level meeting in Bishkek with representatives from Pakistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and the World Bank to develop a joint strategy.



The Kyrgyzstan Minister for Energy expressed readiness to provide all necessary cooperation to strengthen the existing ties between the two countries.
