Islamabad: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has expressed his gratitude to China for its strong and steadfast support to Pakistan in the current South Asia situation. This acknowledgment came during a meeting with Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zaidong in Islamabad.
According to Radio Pakistan, the Prime Minister extended warm wishes to Chinese President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang. He also recalled a recent telephonic conversation between Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, expressing appreciation for China’s understanding of Pakistan’s position regarding India’s actions since April 22, 2025.
Additionally, Prime Minister Sharif thanked China for endorsing his proposal to conduct an international investigation into the Pahalgam incident. He reiterated Pakistan’s condemnation of terrorism in all its forms and highlighted concerns about India’s actions potentially diverting Pakistan’s focus from counter-terrorism efforts against ISKP, TTP, and BLA, which are operating from within Afghanistan.
The Prime Minister criticized India’s decision to weaponize water, describing it as regrettable, particularly given the lack of provisions for either party to unilaterally withdraw from the commitments under the Indus Waters Treaty. Chinese Ambassador Jiang emphasized China’s commitment to supporting Pakistan in achieving peace and stability in South Asia.
