Buner: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has emphasized the importance of preventing illegal constructions and encroachments along river banks to reduce the impact of natural disasters. Addressing a ceremony in Buner for distributing cheques to flood-affected people, he highlighted the urgent need for a comprehensive policy to address these issues.
According to Radio Pakistan, the Prime Minister announced plans to convene a meeting with provincial chief ministers to devise strategies against illegal encroachments along riverbanks and streams. He pointed out that unauthorized constructions significantly contribute to human and material losses during calamities such as cloudbursts.
Prime Minister Shehbaz assured the flood victims of unwavering support from both the Federal Government and the Pakistan Army. He praised the dedication of the Armed Forces and civil administration, reaffirming the government’s commitment to providing all possible assistance to the affected population.
During the ceremony, the Prime Minister distributed financial aid to the flood victims. He was accompanied by Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, who also participated in an aerial survey of the flood-affected areas in Buner and Shangla. Both leaders received a detailed briefing on the ongoing rescue and relief efforts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The Chief of Army Staff commended the troops, police, and civil administration for their dedication to the rescue operations. He instructed ground formations to continue their efforts with utmost commitment to alleviating the suffering of flood-affected families. Additionally, a prayer was offered for those who lost their lives in the disaster.
